The bursary can be used against full course fees and pay-as-you-study options.

Alumni bursary: further information

Who qualifies for the award of an Alumni Bursary?

To be eligible for an Alumni Bursary, you must have successfully completed a bachelor's or master's degree with the University of London through its distance or flexible learning programmes (formally referred to as the International Programmes or External System) and you must be qualified as a graduate by the University. If you were awarded a Graduate Diploma, this does not make you eligible for the Alumni Bursary.

Which fees are eligible for a discount by applying the Alumni Bursary?

For many courses, the Alumni Bursary consists of a 10% discount off a number of fees charged by the University of London. For the Global MBA course, the discount amount is higher, and for other courses, the Alumni Bursary does not apply. LLB Alumni receive further discounts if they are applying for the LLM. Please see further details below.

Fees qualifying for a discount are as follows: Registration and continuing registration fees, undergraduate exam entry fees, undergraduate examination resit fees, and module fees. For the BSc Computer Science course, the module continuation fees are covered by the Alumni Bursary.

The discount does not apply to the following: application fees, recognition of prior learning fees, module continuation fees for postgraduate courses, registration extension fees, postgraduate examination resit fees, examination rechecks, and fees that are charged by third parties, such as local teaching support or for local exam centres.

I am a graduate of the LLB and now wish to apply for the LLM – what discount do I receive?

Alumni of the LLB receive a discount of 30% off the LLM fees. If the alumni is in Bangladesh, Pakistan or Malaysia, then they should use the LLM Bursary which allows them a 40% discount off LLM fees. Please note that UoL scholarships or bursaries   cannot be combined with other UoL scholarships or bursaries, but can be combined with external bursaries, scholarships, or funding.

Is the Alumni Bursary rate the same for the Global MBA programme?

No, the Alumni Bursary for the Global MBA programme is 20%. This rate of 20% is valid until the October 2019 intake.

Can the Alumni Bursary be applied retrospectively?

No. The bursary is only valid for studies that begin, for Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees, in/after the 2016/17 academic year. For Certificates, Diplomas, and Individual Modules, they are only valid for studies that begin in/after the 2017/18 academic year.

The Alumni Bursary cannot be retrospectively applied to studies before these periods. Please make sure that you receive your bursary code before making any payments. No refunds will be issued if you have a code and have not applied it or if you request a code after paying.

No, the Alumni Bursary applies only to course-related fees charged directly by the University (see above).

Can the Alumni Bursary be applied to full course fees as well as modules taken on a pay-as-you-go basis?

Yes, certainly, the Alumni Bursary can be applied to both the full course fees and the pay-as-you-go model.

Will I need a new bursary code each year?

No, you will not need a new code each year if you are applying from 2019 onwards, where you remain on the same course. Your code will work for the duration of your course and is subject specific. If you move onto another course you will need to request a new bursary code.

If you applied before 2019, you will need to request a new code for a new academic year. As codes are being renewed they will then be re-issued for the duration of your course.
