Sir John Cass's Foundation Scholarship

The Sir John Cass's Foundation Distance-Learning Scholarship supports young people living in London who wish to study our courses by distance learning.

The scholarship is available if you are unable to study without financial support. It covers all University of London tuition and examination fees, and includes guidance and careers support throughout the course.

Sir John Cass's Foundation Distance Learning Scholarship

To be eligible for the award, you must be:

  • permanently reside in one of the listed London boroughs* and have lived there for at least one year
  • under 25 years old
  • able to outline why without the scholarship you are unable to undertake one of our courses.

(*Camden, Greenwich, Hackney, Hammersmith and Fulham, Islington, Kensington & Chelsea, Lambeth, Lewisham, Newham, Southwark, Tower Hamlets, Wandsworth, Westminster and the City of London)

  • be from a low income background and be able to outline why without the scholarship you are unable to undertake one of our courses
  • be studying part-time or full-time on a course that is at least one year in length.

Please note: Students already registered with the University of London cannot apply for this scholarship. It is also unavailable for the following courses:

  • Certificate of Higher Education in Computing and Information Systems
  • Certificate of Higher Education in Creative Computing
  • Certificate of Higher Education in Common Law
  • Certificate of Higher Education in Social Sciences
  • International Foundation Programme
  • Postgraduate courses.

Only completed applications will be considered. We will refund the application fee when we consider your scholarship application.

Built-in careers support

Scholarship holders receive additional support, including a custom-built careers programme from The Careers Group, University of London. This includes:

  • An induction at the University of London, where you meet your Careers Consultant and the support you will receive.
  • Three consultations throughout the year to develop your employability skills.
  • Access to careers resources, including careers help-sheets and the JobOnline portal.
  • Support from an alumni mentor with connections to your field of study or preferred employment area (second year onwards).

Scholarship recipients also receive a tour of our campus and an introduction to the University’s student community, facilities and services.

As a scholarship holder, you are required to write a short report each year outlining the impact of your study and research.

You must also follow the standards expected of University of London students.

We reserve the right to withdraw your scholarship if you do not comply with these terms.

Both the University of London and Sir John Cass’s Foundation were established for public benefit and share a common vision to widen access to education.

Over the past five years, we have received over 1,500 applications from London-based students under the age of 25.

The scholarship is designed to support this key demographic, especially where there is financial disadvantage.
