They can advise you of how they managed their studies successfully and offer tips about balancing their study with work and family commitments.

Dr. Adi Walker - Alumni ambassador

Dr. Adi Walker

Adi’s fields of expertise include: governance and local government, post-disaster reconstruction and recovery, research and analysis, monitoring evaluation and learning, community-driven rehabilitation and development, leadership coaching and development, team building, conceptual design and management of programmes and events, and their moderation and facilitation. Adi has also been a co-organiser, presenter, panelist and moderator in several global and regional conferences, and has extensive public speaking skills combined with innovative and stimulating methods and visualisation.
Adi is a member of the International Leadership Association (ILA), the European Association of Development Research and Training Institute (EADI), the International Professional Development Association (IPDA), and member of the Board of Governors of The British School in Kathmandu, chairing its Education and HR sub-committee.
Adi holds a PhD from Oxford Brookes University, a Master’s Degree from Imperial College London and SOAS University, after graduating with a B-Tech. in Engineering from Hertfordshire University, and now refers to himself as a ‘pracademic’. In previous lives and vocations, he has worked in the HRD, educational, outdoor sports, electronics, agriculture and music entertainment industries, and has also travelled extensively round the planet.
Currently, Adi is Director of an EU-funded Technical Facility, advising the Government of Nepal on 'governance behind the reconstruction scenes'. 

Adalto Felix de Godoi

Adalto Felix de Godoi - Management

Brazil-based Adalto Felix de Godoi completed his Diploma for Graduates in Management in 2011. He also holds others degrees and MBA. He built his career in the hospitality field, mainly in the health care industry. He is also a professor working in the business and academic fields. Adalto can advise on study skills, time management and how to balance a daily schedule while studying on a part-time basis.

Nashaad Oodian

Nashaad Oodian graduated from University of London International Programmes in 2014, gaining a first class degree in Business Administration. Studying the University of London degree was challenging for him as well as enriching. It deepened his intellectual understanding and increased a wide variety of his personal skills.

The flexibility of the degree allowed him to combine work and study at the same time. As of 2014, he is studying for a Diploma for Graduates in Management.

Nashaad thinks the programme is demanding and requires a major commitment on the student, but the end result is well worth the effort. He can offer you guidance on how to stay motivated during the whole course and guide you on how to manage your time effectively, overcoming the challenges of working while studying.

Ramparsad Mungar, BSc Economics, and holder of a PGCE, is presently Rector of New Educational College in Mauritius. After graduating in 1976 he taught Economics and accounting in State Colleges and worked as Economist at Price Waterhouse. Ram will be pleased to advise prospective students of the University of London.

I am a 2011 class of UoL , I did my classes in Politics and IR and I studied subjects like nationalism, democratisation , decision making and development management. I moved to Dubai after I finished my MA at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) and worked in several industries including F&B and retail until I established Alex HR Consultants DMCC, a recruitment agency based in Dubai FZ. 

Jafar Rizvi

Jafar Rizvi - Accounting and Finance

While studying for his BSc degree, Jafar completed internships in the finance departments of various multinational companies including Barclays Bank. Soon after graduating, he moved to New Zealand where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant by becoming a member of The Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand. Jafar believes the University of London's global recognition allows students to succeed and adapt in their careers in every corner of the world. It is also a qualification that creates a pathway for them to further carry on their studies as they progress in their career. Jafar currently works for a leading Managed Print and IT solutions provider in New Zealand and believes that the breadth of knowledge he gained from his degree continues to add value to his work. Jafar would be glad to provide advice on managing your studies and making course decisions.

Carmen Gomensoro - English

As a full-time mother and literature teacher, Carmen had to develop practical and organisational skills to be able to fit in hours of study. She said that deciding on the topics and areas of specialisation, and finding resources was a challenge but made studying enjoyable and motivating.

William Byun

William Il Young Byun - Economics

William I.Y. Byun is the Managing Director of the Conchubar Group’s US$ 100 million private equity fund, focused on industrial policy related infrastructure in emerging markets Asia. The Group is currently raising its 2nd fund focusing on cleantech and green energy. He is also a professor of finance at the San Marcos campus of California State University. William is a leading expert in renewable energy and climate change development and finance with multiple publications and lecturing engagements.
Additionally, he serves as an independent director to the International Green Technology and Investment Center of the Government of Kazakhstan, and as a juror on the International Awards Committee in Russia for the Global Energy Prize, the premier international award for scientific achievements and research in energy.
Previously been the Managing Director for Renewables and Climate Change (for Asia and the Middle East) for the NYSE-listed AES Corporation, the CEO of the manufacturer RC Chemicals, and for one of the pioneers in the climate change sector in Asia with BC Capital, he has also advised various governments and state-linked investment enterprises in Asia including for the Philippines, Thailand, Brunei, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Indonesia and others on infrastructure investments and on renewables and energy policy.
A New York licensed attorney, William was a US Fulbright Scholar to the Ministry of Finance of Korea, and had been with the Office of General Counsel with US Federal Agency, OPIC. He has degrees in economics, law, financial economics and sociology from the University of Chicago, University of Michigan and the University of London.

Rabia Saeed

Rabia Saeed

Rabia Saeed is an Attorney of the High Court, and is currently working as a lecturer for the University of London LLB at UCI and Roots IVY International. She is also working as a legal consultant at SKIM legal associates. She can offer advice on study methods, how to maintain good scores, how to enrol for the local Bar, and how to get an internship. She can also help the students get a better idea of how a UoL programme works.

Robert Mudida - Finance (Major: Economic Policy)

I have been an academic since 2004 teaching and conducting research primarily in the areas of financial economics, public policy and international studies. I also have extensive consultancy experience with the World Bank and Financial Sector Deepening in both Kenya and Uganda. I would be very happy to provide advice for students considering any of the MSc programmes of the University of London related to Financial Economics or Finance. I would be happy to explain the commitment required to successfully complete the programme and also some of the career opportunities once one completes the programme. Vladimir Tikhomirov, alumni ambassador

Vladimir Tikhomirov - Finance (Major: Financial Sector Management)

Vladimir graduated from Moscow State University sociology department in 1997, got his ACCA charter in 2003, and graduated from the University of London International Programmes with an MSc in Finance (Financial Sector Management) in 2008. After working in big accounting firms and a bank, Vladimir settled as independent consultant, auditor and IFRS accountant. In his spare time he enjoys hiking and foot orienting.

Keith Vella Licari, alumni ambassador

Keith Vella Licari - Information Security

Keith Vella Licari completed an MSc in Information Security in 2013 and a BSc in Computing and Information Systems in 2007. He works in CyberSecurity at a UK-based online gaming operator, Gamesys Group plc, which is well known for operating renowned gaming sites such as Jackpotjoy and Virgin Games. Prior to this, he worked for a professional services firm in Malta as an IT Audit Manager, and in the public sector where his primary focus was in the area of information security.

Keith can advise on study skills/aids, exam preparation, and how to manage study with other commitments.

Branko Bokan, Alumni ambassador

Branko Bokan - Information Security

Branko is a seasoned information security expert and a proud holder of all three ISC2 CISSP concentrations (CISSP-ISSAP, ISSEP, and ISSMP). He works for the Federal Government, serves an adjunct faculty at the University of Maryland Global Campus, and is a member of the board of directors of the Information Systems Security Association - National Capital Chapter in Washington, DC.

Pranai Agarwal

Pranai Agarwal - Economics and Management

Pranai Agarwal completed his BSc Economics and Management in 2011 with first class honours. He is currently working as a Senior Travel Business Analyst at American Express, India, and hopes to pursue his MBA in marketing this year. Pranai can provide assistance and advice on how he managed his studies, his experience in sitting the University of London exams, and how his University education has benefited him at his workplace.

Hema Thakur

Hema Thakur - Banking and Finance

Having graduated in the field of banking and finance, I work at Cactus Communications, a company that assists academic authors in their journal publication journey by offering services such as translation and editing. I had joined the company as an associate editor in the Center of Excellence for Business and Economics given my academic background; I’m now a part of the training team and I drive organisation-wide projects in addition to training new recruits in the humanities discipline. I would be happy to address any queries I receive, be it the applicability of my studies to the industry, prospects of further study, the academic industry in general, study tips, or teaching centre-related queries.

Dr Jacquie Oliwa

Dr Jacquie Narotso Oliwa - Epidemiology

Jacquie is a paediatrician, clinical epidemiologist, a lecturer and research fellow. Her research focus is in health systems and implementation science. Her current project is trying to understand the complex epidemiology of tuberculosis in children and optimising implementation of guidelines and diagnostic tests to improve case detection of tuberculosis in children. She has collaborated with the Kenyan Ministry of Health and government hospitals in various quality improvement projects, clinical trials and systematic reviews - all of which have contributed to building evidenced-based care and policies for sick children in Kenya. She serves on the Kenya Paediatric TB Technical Working Group, is a member of the International Union of Lung Health and the WHO Child TB subgroup providing technical expertise in policy development and advocacy for improved care for children with tuberculosis.
Jacquie has vast experience in medical education. She is a trainer of trainers for the Paediatric HIV Care Course; Paediatric TB; as well as Paediatric Life support courses. She lectures Paediatrics and Child Health at the University of Nairobi; and the Diploma in Tropical Medicine with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. She has taken part in curriculum development/review of the mentioned courses and has trained/facilitated several courses in Kenya and the wider East Africa region. Jacquie’s expertise spans curriculum development and medical education; health systems research; clinical and observational studies; quality improvement; monitoring and evaluation; policy formulation and implementation. She is passionate about capacity building and use of evidence to improve quality of care in children.

Joseph Nkuranga

Joseph Nkuranga - Epidemiology

I am a medical doctor working in Kenya with more than ten years' experience in HIV and TB management at service delivery and advisory levels. I pursued my MSc in Epidemiology between 2011 and 2014 via distance learning. It was a challenging period balancing a busy career with a demanding course. It took discipline, dedication and fortitude to succeed on both fronts. Somehow, in the middle of all that, I also got married. Feel free to talk to me about studying while working and applying what you learn in public health programmes.

Dr Judit Krisztina Horvath  -Alumni ambassador

Dr Judit Krisztina Horvath - Epidemiology

A medical doctor specialised in Preventive Medicine and Public Health in Hungary, J. Krisztina Horvath completed her MSc in Epidemiology in 2011. Currently she works at the National Public Health Center in Hungary, having previously worked at the Office of the Chief Medical Officer (2012-2017) and at the National Centre for Epidemiology in Hungary (2006-2012). Krisztina can advise on study skills, and how to balance one's daily schedule while studying with the distance learning option.

Farah Saleh

Farah graduated from Computing and Information Systems in 2013 and has been working in the digital industry since then. In her free time, she does mentoring to young graduates and blogs on her website. She is available for advice and chats on the programme, digital industry and technological leadership.

Ruwan Fonseka

Ruwan is a Senior Software and Project Management Professional based out of Greater New York City Area. Ruwan has an interest in Tech Startups, and has completed the University of Oxford Saïd Business School’s Oxford Fintech Programme and Oxford Blockchain Strategy Programme. He graduated with a BSc. Computing And Information Systems degree from the University of London, and also holds an Executive Master of Science degree in Technology Management from Columbia University (New York City). He is a certified Project Management Professional from the Project Management Institute, and a Certified ScrumMaster from the Scrum Alliance. Ruwan can provide advice in all areas for future students of the University of London BSc. and Diploma in Computing And Information Systems.

Asif Chowdhury

Asif Chowdhury

Asif Chowdhury graduated in BSc Computing & Information Systems in 2002. He also completed a MSc in IT in 2010. He has more than 18 years of experience in IT and holds a senior position in the IT Infrastructure department in MNC. His strength lies in virtualisation and cloud computing.

He believes that studying at the University of London helped him to delve deep into the framework and it teaches concepts and practices, which will enable students to appreciate engineering support facilities with a managerial perspective in a business environment. He remarks that the programme helped to facilitate and balance his personal and social life with his professional life. In particular it has equipped him with the knowledge of technical, analytical, managerial and social issues.

Being friendly, approachable and clued-up, he can present both an affirmative and accurate picture of the degree course offered by the University of London. He is privileged and well equipped to share all his experiences during his undergraduate study. Hong-Chee Lee

Hong-Chee Lim - Postgraduate Laws LLM

Hong-Chee Lim decided to take up a law degree to strengthen his working knowledge and academic qualification, 15 years after leaving university. Despite limited prior legal knowledge, he completed his Postgraduate Diploma in Law and progressed to complete the LLM whilst having a full time travel-intensive job and a family of four to take care of.

Hong-Chee can share his experiences of how he overcame challenges on time management as a part-time student, and on picking up textbooks again after having been out of school for a long time.

Naheed Shiraz Merchant

Naheed Shiraz Merchant - Postgraduate Laws LLM

Holder of 3 Masters Degrees, Ms. Naheed Shiraz Merchant from Karachi, Pakistan, completed her LLM in the specialization of Corporate and Commercial Law from the University Of London through Distance Learning Programme in 2012 and achieved Merit. Shortly after completing her LLM with the University Of London, Naheed joined Meezan Bank Limited in Karachi as Senior Law Officer in their Legal & Corporate Affairs Department.

She also holds an LLM Degree from University of Karachi, in which she achieved First Position in her College and her city. Prior to starting her professional career in the field of Law, she did a Masters in Islamic Studies with First Grade.

After practising for over eight years in the commercial and technology areas in London and Nassau, Bahamas, I switched to teaching full time at the University of the West Indies/College of the Bahamas LLB faculty, and I am now an Assistant Professor at Lewis & Clark Law School where I teach international climate change law, energy law, environmental justice and administrative law. Pursuing an LLM enabled me to diversify my professional interests into the area of environmental law, and I went on to pursue a PhD after my LLM.

I studied for a LLB with UoL between 1991-1994 through private studies without attending formal tuition while I was working as a teacher. Therefore I can give advice on how to plan private study and the balance of work-study. The LLB enabled me to join the legal profession in Kenya. Later I studied for LLM which enabled me to get senior employment at Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission and then an international job at the United Nations. Therefore i can also advice on employment possibilities of the qualifications.

Claudia Sibert

Claudia Sibert - Bachelor of Laws

Advocate & Solicitor for West Malaysia and in-house Legal Counsel (Switzerland) Claudia Sibert completed her LLB from the University of London in 2007. Claudia pursued her LLM after being called to the Bar and gained several years of legal practice and in-house experience. During her LLB, she chose company law and intellectual property law as electives and pursues her career as an in-house Intellectual Property Lawyer at General Electric. Claudia can advise on study skills, subject electives and how to maintain a good student life balance.

Syeda Mehak Imran

An Advocate of the High Court, Syeda completed her in 2012. She is currently practicing in the Lower and High Courts of Pakistan and is also teaching Contract law at a teaching institution for the University of London International Programmes. Mehak can guide current and prospective students with study skills and exam techniques.

Saad Hasan

I am a practicing attorney who has been engaged in criminal, civil & corporate litigation and consultancy since 2011. I am an advocate of the High Courts with an experience of over 700 contentious cases before all categories of judicial for a. I have also been associated with the UoL alumni ambassador program since 2015 and regularly advise prospective students who approach me for advice on study technique, readings, what is required to be successful legal practitioner, what litigation is like, how a University of London degree can help them practice in Pakistan or other commonwealth countries and how the programme compares to other LLB degree programmes etc. As someone who has been a product of UoL external programme and has gone on to practice litigation the extent that I have renders me able to provide advice laced with personal insight to aspiring students and to anticipate and address their queries on how the degree programme would equip them to pursue their professional goals.

Philip Beharry

I completed my LLM Maritime Law (Merit) with UoL in 2018. I have been a Judicial Research Counsel in the Supreme Court of Trinidad and Tobago since 2015. I provide research and advice to judges of the Court. I have worked in both the Court of Appeal and the High Court. With 6 years of experience as an attorney at law in Trinidad, I can advise on working in both the public and private sectors, and best options for employment based on individual goals. I can assist in deciding whether a career as an attorney at law is right for you, based on the legal profession as it exists in Trinidad and Tobago. I can also provide assistance on choosing an UoL Recognised Teaching Centre to study at, in Trinidad.

Md. Salah Uddin Bhuiyan - Bachelor of Laws

Md. Salah Uddin Bhuiyan is an advocate and legal consultant in a widely known law firm at Dhaka. He is able to help prospective students by giving study tips and information about admission of the University of London International Programmes.

Md. Mahdiul Haque completed his LLB in 2014. He then completed his masters in Criminology at the University of Dhaka. Currently, he is working in a reputed law firm as Junior Associate at Law Chamber in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Mahdi has been involved with a voluntary organisation regarding developing reading habits throughout his academic career and he is interested in travelling around the world. He knows about study materials and the difficulties that students face regarding examination related issues.

Dr Johannes Landbrecht, alumni ambassador

Dr Johannes Landbrecht - Bachelor of Laws

Rechtsanwalt & Barrister Dr Johannes Landbrecht completed his LLB in 2011. Johannes obtained his first law degree in Germany in 2006, where he was admitted to the bar in 2008. He obtained his PhD degree from the University of Geneva in 2012. In 2014 he was admitted to the bar in England & Wales, in 2018 in Switzerland. He sits as arbitrator and works as counsel in international arbitration at GABRIEL Arbitration in Zurich, with a focus on IP and energy-related disputes. He also lectures at the universities of Münster and Zurich and serves as Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Notre Dame.

Faria Binta Alam - Alumni Ambassador

Faria Binta Alam - Bachelor of Laws

After successfully completing my LLB in 2007 and Diploma-in-law in 2005 from UoL, I have completed my LLM from Eastern University in Bangladesh. I was also awarded with the ''CUM LAUDE"" Award n 2010 for the excellent result in my Master's.
Currently, I am working as a Lawyer in the Supreme Court of Bangladesh. At the same time, I am also involved as the Panel Lawyer in a few corporate companies, a pharmaceutical company and banks and financial institutes. I have also worked briefly as a Senior Associate & Head of Finance in a renounced law firm in Bangladesh and while working there, I was awarded as the Star Performer for the month.  
Studying with UoL has given me a wide range of opportunities in shaping my career path. I had a wonderful experience in studying at UoL. As an Alumni Ambassador I would like to contribute to the alumni community by sharing my views and experience with current and prospective students.

Faryal Mazhar - Bachelor of Laws

After completing her LLB in 2004, Faryal worked as an in-house counsel for various companies, before pursuing her LLM at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland. She spent five years working as a senior associate/team leader in one of the most reputed law firms of Pakistan, offering legal services in almost all areas of law, inter-alia, civil, commercial, IP, family and criminal law. Faryal is currently working as Senior Legal Counsel for one of the largest conglomerates in Pakistan.

I can provide future learners on the prospects of having a UoL degree. I have won the Brigid Cotter Prize in 2008 and I believe I am apt to advise learners as to how to manage their time and schedule for learning for an online degree. I have myself taught at University and Bar Vocational level, I am therefore apt to understand the needs of learners when it comes to a degree, undergraduate, post graduate or professional level.

Christina Chelliah

Christina Chelliah - Bachelor of Laws

Christina Chelliah is a dual-qualified multi-lingual Attorney (New York State & Malaysia) based in New York City. During her time in the United States, she has been engaged in various consultant attorney stints with prestigious firms and companies including Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton, LLP; Paul Hastings, LLP; Mayer Brown, LLP; Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, LLP and 3M. In addition to her work as an attorney, Christina is a registered Real Estate Agent with Rutenberg Realty and plays a dual-role of Law Tutor and Tutor Manager with the International Centre for Legal Studies (ICLS) - the only recognized teaching centre for the University of London in the United States and Canada. She is also currently pursuing the final leg of the Qualified Lawyer Transfer Scheme (QLTS) Examination for admission to the Roll of Solicitors in England and Wales.

Prior to her arrival in the United States, Ms. Chelliah practiced as a corporate attorney in a leading law firm in Kuala Lumpur while simultaneously lecturing part-time at a renowned law school in Kuala Lumpur. Her main portfolio while in legal practice comprised various corporate and commercial matters with a primary focus in mergers and acquisitions in cross-border transactions, a company secretarial portfolio and general advisory work.

Christina, a former Miss Malaysia, exhibits poise and the unique ability to engage and interact with a variety of personalities due in part to experiences gained as a sought after spokesmodel for world class brands, her role as Alumni Ambassador for the University of London and her time as Project Manager for an internationally-affiliated travel agency on 5th Avenue in New York City overseeing and executing complex luxury destination events for high net-worth individuals.

Engineer Paul Thang'a Gichuhi who lives in Nairobi, completed his LLB in 1998 and his LLM(Arbitration) in 2004 both from the University of London long after he graduated as an engineer in 1973. He completed Diploma in Arbitration from University of Reading in 2000. He is a practising advocate of the High Court of Kenya with visiting rights in the Commonwealth ; a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and a Chartered Arbitrator.

Marion is a proud 2006 LLB graduate and is currently the Assistant Legal Counsel & Compliance Officer at the University of Technology Jamaica. Her main area of focus is Corporate Governance and provides advice on all such matters to the University. Marion remains a committed Alumni Ambassador for the UoL and is delighted to share her experiences with incoming and current students and to provide any guidance or assistance that can make the students sojourn in the programme more manageable.

I used my law degree for Parliamentary purposes especially in my role as Chair of the Parliamentary ethics and Privileges Committee, and, especially, on the legislative review committee whose remit was to assess every bill before Parliament (Government, Opposition and Private Members) against a series of tests on compliance with international conventions (human rights etc) and legal precedence.

Since I left Parliament in 2011 (or since I was voted out!), I have used my legal background in the local planning area on a consultancy basis, though I am now largely retired from that activity. I am currently researching a PhD on Social Democracy through a local university.

Worked for over 30 years in large corporations in UK and Canada. Last 15 at senior executive level. Chaired diversity programs. Have worked as executive coach at individual and team levels (ICF certified) - and in transition work. Was certified as a CMC (I no longer maintain this membership). Did the MSC whilst an executive so understand the strains of studying whilst in a large role and with a family and remote learning.

Combining his background in chemical engineering and organisational psychology, Martin brings over 20+ years international experience in shaping and executing strategy, infrastructure program delivery and service transformation. With a passion for sustainable community development, Martin also holds leadership and advisory/pro-bono roles in this field.

I'm grateful for the opportunities and support I've received during my journey so far - including industry roles in energy production operations and capital infrastructure, major government reforms and professional services, working with senior executive and operational teams across a variety sectors, geographies and cultures. Dr. Chris Oyewole Durojaiye is currently a Consultant in Infectious Diseases and Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, UK. He completed his PGDip and MSc in Infectious Diseases in 2011 and 2013 respectively. His main interests are outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy (OPAT), viral hepatitis and tropical diseases. Chris can offer advice on study skills, approaches to answering exam question, time management, and how to combine study with full-time job and family time.

I chose to study my Masters through the University of London for a number of reasons, including its reputation, the specialisation it offered, the project option, and in particular, because I could study through distance learning. I enjoyed the independence of tailoring my time, which allowed me to accommodate family, work, and social commitments. I'm currently a Post-Doctoral Researcher (Clinical Microbiologist) at the University of Liverpool. The degree gave me a deep understanding of various molecular mechanisms I handle every day and taught me to evaluate the potential of scientific research in different areas. It qualified me in cutting edge and state-of-the-art scientific technologies, which is essential to my career.
