The module is an introduction to public health, methods for the control of infectious diseases, surveillance methods, and the design of control programmes, with the aim that students will be able to follow essential arguments in reports and articles written about issues in these topical areas, and to understand the principles for designing public health intervention programmes.This is a compulsory core module for those on the Infectious Diseases programmes.

Please note: For the MSc Health in Humanitarian Crises programme, this module is not available to study as an individual module.

Assessment

Optional formative assignments are available to help students practice some of the principles discussed, and obtain tutor feedback.

2hr 15 unseen written paper examination (100%).

If students fail the module overall, they are allowed one further attempt at the examination.
