Level 6 - DT3001

This Level 6 course provides an opportunity to use the skills learned at Level 5 to engage in depth with the language and interpretation of a selection of longer texts from the Hebrew Bible.

Prerequisite

In order to take this course, you must already have passed Foundations in Biblical Hebrew at Level 5.

Topics covered

Students will conduct a detailed study of Exodus 1-25 and Proverbs 1-9 in Hebrew. The primary emphasis is the exegesis of the texts, but attention will also be paid to textual and philological questions.

Assessment

Forum participation (10%) and a three-hour written examination (90%).

Marilyn Burton received her PhD from the University of Edinburgh in 2014. Her research interests centre around biblical translation, linguistics and exegesis. She is the author of The Semantics of Glory: A Cognitive, Corpus-Based Approach to Hebrew Word Meaning (Brill, 2017) as well as a number of articles and chapters relating to Hebrew semantics.
