Gillian Wearing is a conceptual artist and winner of the annual British Fine Arts award, the Turner Prize, in 1997 as well as an OBE in 2011.

Gillian Wearing

Wearing’s filmography and photographs explore public personas and private lives, analysing how we present ourselves to the world, and is characterised by an engagement with the lives of everyday people using photography, video and a range of devices to reveal personal details. She was elected as a lifetime member of the Royal Academy of Arts in London in 2007. Following her studies at Chelsea College of Art, Wearing attended Goldsmiths, University of London, from 1987 to 1990.
