Why study with ULIP?

1. Paris is our campus

Paris needs no introduction, its aura radiates across the world, it’s a city that one needs to discover and experience for oneself, a cosmopolitan and multifaceted place where anyone can find their niche.

With cafes, parks, museums, restaurants, nightlife, and well, endless things to do, you will never experience a dull moment. Paris has something for everyone, especially students with its many student discounts and financial support.

Also, if you have a travel bug, this influential European capital is a great springboard for your European adventures. Thanks to France's central location you will be within 2 hours by plane or train of some of the major European capitals, allowing you to discover the richness of this continent.

Our central location on the Left Bank’s Esplanade des Invalides places ULIP at the heart of the city’s historic centre and offers a prestigious and quintessentially Parisian setting for your studies.

2. Join a bigger world

Developing greater cultural understanding and gaining international experience is an essential part of studying at ULIP. Living in a diverse city and a different culture you will absorb all the skills and sensitivities that come from global living.

Just around the corner from France’s Assemblée Nationale and a stone’s throw from international organisations such as the OECD and UNESCO, as a ULIP student you can watch global politics play out at first hand in one of the key centres for European diplomacy.

Our student community is diverse, with students from all across the world, and our courses equip graduates for truly global careers.

3. An unparalleled learning experience

Studying at ULIP combines the advantages of a small friendly academic community with the resources and capabilities of a top UK university. While our Paris academic staff provide core teaching and pastoral support, our partnership with Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) means that our students benefit from the wide-ranging resources and academic expertise of a university that constantly appear in some of the world rankings.

Queen Mary is a member – alongside ULIP – of the University of London and of the UK’s prestigious Russell Group of universities.

4. High quality teaching from experts in their field

Our academics are all experts in their fields whose teaching draws on “internationally excellent” research (RAE 2008, REF 2014). The majority of our teaching takes place in small groups, allowing students to receive significant individual attention and regular feedback - ensuring that every ULIP student reaches their full academic potential.

5. Study abroad with the assurance of a prestigious University of London degree

Everyone – potential employers included – agrees on the advantages of studying and living abroad. As a ULIP student you can benefit from all these international opportunities, whilst still gaining a University of London or Queen Mary University of London degree, qualifications that are respected and recognized the world over. Check our Benefits of Studying abroad infographic.

6. Benefit from a small and supportive UK university environment

Our undergraduate degrees typically have cohorts of 60 students or fewer, while postgraduate degrees have cohorts of 25 or fewer, meaning that you are never lost in the crowd at ULIP.  As a student with us, you will benefit from the same high level of academic, pastoral and financial support that you would expect from a leading UK university, while living and studying abroad for the duration of your degree.

All Student Services staff are bilingual and have expert knowledge of both the UK and French student, health, and administrative systems.

7. Immerse yourself in the French language and culture

As a student at ULIP, you will have a wealth of different opportunities to practice your French language and cultural skills.

Whatever course you choose to study, you will have the opportunity to study French either formally, as a major, minor, or the whole of your course, or informally, in non-credit bearing classes.

The opportunity to learn both inside and outside the classroom means that all our students gain valuable language skills during the course of their degree.

8. Learn in French or English

As a student at ULIP you will have the flexibility to choose to learn and study in French, with many of our BA options for those minoring or majoring in French Studies taught in French, or in English, with our minors and majors in International Politics, Business, and all our postgraduate courses taught in English, meaning that whatever your linguistics skills, there’s a place for you at ULIP.

9. Enhanced career development and employability training

Career development training and support is provided for all students by Queen Mary's Careers and Enterprise (which is part of The Careers Group, one of the largest university careers service in Europe). As well as compulsory CV development and interview practice in the classroom, our students have a wide range of opportunities to hone their skills in a professional environment through fieldwork, internships and part-time employment here in Paris.

10. Complete a BA in three years or a MA in one or two years

Our courses allow optimal use of your time and study costs: our BA degrees can be completed in three years, and our MA degrees typically take one year to complete. In order to make our programmes accessible to a wide range of students, we offer lower tuition fees for European and Overseas students than many UK universities.
