General Careers Advice talks - Woburn Suite

Speaker: Sue Young

Synopsis: Sue will go through top tips on writing a targeted CV, designed to get you that all-important interview. The session will go through the key components of a UK-focused CV, including plenty of DO's and DONT's! You will leave the session being able to write a great CV!

Bio of speaker: Sue has had a long and varied career in Administration, the NHS, Education & Training, and Careers IAG. From 2007 to 2017, Sue was Head of Careers for the University of London based at Queen Mary, SOAS and Goldsmiths. She successfully took each of those university careers services from strength to strength resulting in, at Goldsmiths in particular, a significant investment from the host college. Sue now works for herself as a freelance careers coach, writer and personal branding specialist.

Synopsis: Whether you are intending to study to sit a U.S. bar examination, or interested in studying U.S. law and practice to further your personal development, we will be delighted to meet you. This event will give you the chance to ask us any questions relating to our programmes and the U.S. bar examinations.

We will advise how our programme prepares you for the U.S. bar exams. Further, we will be able to answer any questions relating to our programmes and the U.S. bar examinations. We will provide you with guidance on eligibility and explain how we can support you through your studies.  We will also talk about our SQE programmes, preparing graduates to qualify as solicitors in England & Wales from 2021.

Synopsis: Come and learn about what it takes to study for the ACA and become a Chartered Accountant while working in charity audit. This talk gives you insight from current ACA students into the ACA qualification and what it’s like to combine work and study towards a professional qualification. You’ll also get an overview of what it means to be an auditor, and the contribution that audit can make to social purpose organisations. There will be the chance to learn about the Sayer Vincent ACA traineeship, which involves working with all sorts of organisations, from household name charities to small local arts organisations.

Synopsis: Overview of the graduate business education in the US and why it still has a strong return on investment.

Bio of speaker: In 2016, Lawrence Mur’ray joined Fordham University as the Senior Assistant Dean of Graduate Business Programs at the Gabelli School of Business.  At the start of his tenure with the Gabelli School, Lawrence's primary areas of responsibility included recruiting and admissions, student engagement, and academic services in a graduate division with more than 15 academic programs and 2,000 students.  In August 2018, with the simultaneous launch of 3 online business masters, Lawrence's primary focus shifted to the broader scope of strategic enrolment management for the graduate division of the business school.
 
Prior to joining the Gabelli School of Business, Lawrence spent more than 10 years as the executive director/assistant dean of undergraduate business programs at the top-ranked Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. There, Lawrence was responsible for end-to-end operations including admissions and recruiting, student engagement, academic services, global partnerships and initiatives, and career and professional development. Other previous roles included 5-years at Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business and several university-wide leadership roles at his alma mater, the University of Arizona.  Before moving into higher education, Lawrence held several business strategy and operations roles in Tucson, Arizona.   
 
Lawrence participated in college athletics and graduated from the University of Arizona with undergraduate degrees in political science and psychology.  He completed graduate degrees in organisational development and business administration.  In 2020, Lawrence will pursue a doctorate with a focus on educational leadership/management.  
 
He lives in New York City with his partner and enjoys sports, travel, live music, technology, reading, and spending time with friends and family.
