Planning your family reunion in London

For many over the last few months, we've been unable to see our families as much as we'd like. But with lockdown restrictions easing, now is the time to start meeting up with people and doing more things. With that in mind we've put together some tips on making the most out of a family reunion in London.

London family reunion

For many of us, it’s been a long time since we’ve been able to spend quality time with our non-direct family. As the pandemic continues, many of us have been limited to our own household, meaning we’ve lost out on quality time with our extended family members.

However, as the pandemic restrictions ease, there’s more opportunity to travel and spend time with loved ones. So, what better time is there to organise a family reunion? And with travel abroad being more complicated than previous years, London has never looked more exotic.

So, in this article, we’ll discuss everything you need to know about planning your long overdue family reunion in one of the most exciting cities in the world - London.

What is a reunion?

A reunion is a group of people meeting after spending a significant amount of time apart. They’re a special event as they celebrate the reconnection between people who haven’t been able to meet for a long time, or who have lost contact and decide to re-ignite the connection.

Common reunions include:

● school reunions

● workplace reunions

● university reunions

● travel reunions

● family reunions

Reunions can be powerful and emotional - and after several months in lockdown, it’s likely you’ll be longing for a reunion of some kind - especially if you’ve not seen your family in a long time.

Why have a family reunion?

Reunions will be taking place in full force after the coronavirus induced quarantine. But the lockdown has been especially hard for families - most specifically for those that are used to spending a lot of time together.

Grandparents who would normally spend a lot of time with their grandchildren suddenly couldn’t anymore. Cousins who felt more like siblings had to part ways, and even adult siblings with young families were forced to keep their families apart. It’s been tough on a lot of families - so it’s not surprising that family reunions are high on the post lockdown agenda.

Now that more households can start to spend time together - there’s no better time to bring the family together again, take a trip to London and spend some quality time together.

Planning ideas for a family reunion

Family reunions are about spending quality time together, enjoying a new experience and reconnecting. However, making a weekend out of the reunion gives the opportunity to get out of the house (where quite a lot of people have been spending time recently!), see some new things and make memories.

However, there are few things you need to consider when planning a family reunion.

1. The budget for the family reunion

It’s important that you all agree how much you expect each family member (or household) to pay for the reunion ahead of the reunion trip. This budget needs to include everything from travel and accommodation to all the activities you’ll do when you’re there.

2. The location for the family reunion

It’s important that everyone in the family agrees with the location of the reunion. Ideally, this should be somewhere that’s easy for all family members to get to easily and without difficulty. You should also consider the public transport risks and if everyone can reach by car if they’d feel more comfortable with it.

London is the most connected city in the country - so for reunion weekend away, you shouldn’t have any trouble getting everyone to the city safe and healthy.

3. Activities to do on your family reunion

Reunions are a great opportunity to get involved in a lot of different activities that can help the family relax, enjoy their time together and make great memories. These can be anything from taking long walks, going to eat in fancy (or not so fancy!) restaurants and hitting the tourist sight-seeing routes.

We’ll talk about the activities available in London further on in this article.

4. Accommodation for your family reunion

If you’re planning your family reunion in London, then you’ll need to make sure you have accommodation booked for everyone. Depending on how many people attend your reunion, it can be complicated to find affordable accommodation for everyone.

At Stay Central, we offer central accommodation in the heart of London which is ideal for groups. Our self catered apartments and bed and breakfast rooms can accommodate up to 7 people, making them ideal for families wanting to escape to the city for a well deserved break.
