The QS World University Rankings by Subject highlight the world’s top-performing universities in 48 academic subjects, using research citations and the results of major global surveys of employers and academics to compile the rankings.
The University of London’s member institutions performed exceptionally well in the 2019 rankings, appearing in the top 10 of exactly half of the 48 individual subject tables.
UCL Institute of Education secured the top spot in Education for the sixth year running.
UCL Institute of Education secured the top spot in Education for the sixth year running. UCL also ranked first in Architecture/Built Environment, while LSE and the Royal Veterinary College ranked first in Social Policy and Administration and Veterinary Science respectively.
UCL secured a top 10 place in an additional seven subject tables, namely Archaeology (3rd), Anatomy and Physiology (5th), Medicine (joint 9th), Pharmacy and Pharmacology (7th), Psychology (10th), Geography (7th) and Anthropology (5th).
LSE featured most frequently, appearing in the top 10 of an additional 12 subject tables: History (6th), Philosophy (9th), Geography (2nd), Accounting and Finance (5th), Anthropology (9th), Business and Management Studies (joint 8th), Communication and Media Studies (4th), Development Studies (4th), Economics and Econometrics (6th), Law (7th), Politics and International Studies (4th) and Sociology (4th).
Other member institutions that featured in the top 10 include London Business School (3rd in Business and Management Studies); Goldsmiths, University of London (7th in Communication and Media Studies); King’s College London (2nd in Nursing, joint 2nd in Dentistry, 10th in Philosophy); SOAS, (8th in Development Studies); and the Royal Academy of Music (4th in Performing Arts).
