Access to Lifts Inside the Library After 5pm (Issue now resolved)

Update Thursday 30 September 2021: We're pleased to report that the issue with lift access inside the Library after 5pm has now been resolved, with full lift access operating during Library opening hours.

We have been informed by our lift maintenance provider that they cannot guarantee an out of hours service for our lifts due to a shortage of fuel for lift engineers’ vans. This means that should there be an issue with one of our lifts outside normal working hours, wait times for a response could be significant.

During normal working hours, 8am to 5pm, lift engineers are on site and there will be no change in any lift operation. However, from 5pm the following lifts will be turned off:

Tower Lift (lift 5), Stack Lift (lift 14), public lift between 4th and 6th floors (lift 12) and the service lift (Lift 4).

One of the main lifts from the ground floor to the 4th floor will remain operational after 5pm.

This means that after 5pm readers who cannot manage the stairs will need staff to fetch books for them. Please speak to staff on the membership desk who will be happy to help you. We realise this is not ideal especially at the beginning of term, we apologise for any inconvenience and do hope the situation will be resolved soon.
