The Collections strongly support interdisciplinary research into all areas of the Humanities. Holdings span the disciplines of sociology and anthropology, economics and politics, with emphasis on historical, philosophical, and cultural aspects of the subjects. Social and economic history are particular strengths. Women’s history, economic and political thought are also widely covered.
Geographical focus is on British and European material, however much related material can also be found in our area studies collections.
The Social Sciences Collections are enhanced by important Special Collections holdings, which include rich periodical, monograph, and archival holdings dating back to the 15th century.
