  • The Click and Collect Service: members only, by advance booking, bring your confirmation email. No appointment is required to return books during opening hours.
  • You can now browse the open shelves of the Library again, our books are available for onsite study and to borrow in most cases. Please ensure you book a 3-hour study slot to use the library whether you need to stay and study or just browse and borrow. This is to ensure that we can monitor occupancy and avoid over-crowding. Members only, via online booking.
  • The Special Collections reading room is open on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 10am - 3.45pm (bookings via email).

Opening times:

Please ensure you book a 3-hour study slot to use the library whether you need to stay and study or just browse and borrow. This is to ensure that we can monitor occupancy and avoid over-crowding. 

13th and 14th May: Monday to Friday 10am - 4pm.

17th - 28th May: Monday - Friday 10am - 7pm.

Saturday 29th May: 10am - 4pm.

Monday 31st May: CLOSED

1st June - 28th August: Monday - Friday 9am - 5.45pm, Saturday 9.45-5.15pm

Sundays: Closed.

The returns box at Senate House is available Monday to Friday, 7am-7pm.

We will continue to waive fines for the duration of the lockdown.

Please note:

  • Senate House Library staff will check your booking on arrival and may change your seat allocation. This is to ensure adequate social distancing & the safest study environment possible for all readers while onsite. If you are exempt from wearing a face mask, we may upgrade your study space to a carrel & advise on alternative ways to access services to minimise the risk of spreading the virus.
     
  • The Library is set up to be as Covid-19 safe as possible. This includes socially distanced study spaces, PPE, and sanitisers.

  • Library users must wear face coverings when using the Library (unless medically exempt). The Library has stock available should readers forget, lose, or break theirs.

  • Please ensure that you have your Library card and proof of study space booking with you when travelling to the Library.

  • Stay alert: check our website or social media for the latest updates before travelling.
  • Always maintain social distancing of 2 metres when seated and moving around the building.
  • Face coverings are to be worn at all times in all Library spaces, unless you hold a valid exemption card.
  • Everyday kindness: collaborate with staff to calmly respond to changes that ensure your safety.
