King’s Careers & Employability is a large, high-paced, innovative team, delivering transformational approaches to careers education and employability development. We are responsible for strategic and operational leadership of the careers learning and employability development of all these students, and for collaboration with academic partners and employers. The service also offers careers provision for contract research staff and for graduates for up to two years post-graduation. The team comprises over 50 members of staff, including student assistants, across a range of sub-teams responsible for careers consultancy & education, employer engagement & internships and student engagement both virtually and in person. The service’s main base is on the Strand campus in Bush House. There is a satellite office on the Guy’s campus, and the service provides additional services at both the Waterloo and Denmark Hill campuses.
King’s Careers & Employability organises and delivers services across five core areas:
- one-to-one services
- information and online learning
This is made up of comprehensive programmes of careers education and events within faculties, and a large central programme of fairs, workshops, forums, presentations, awards and opportunities, often supported and co-delivered by employers and alumni. The service manages successful, award-winning and high-profile internships schemes focusing on local and international opportunities with a wide range of employers. It co-ordinates the delivery of a number of co-curricular skills development awards across the College. It is also the key partner in the innovative programme to embed employability in the curriculum through a process of employability-led quality assurance, which impacts the work of all careers consultants and much of the service. The service also applies strong core frameworks of careers learning through the Discover Focus Action framework aligned to careers registration, and of employability development through the KASE (Knowledge, Attributes, Skills and Experience) framework. Application and dissemination of these core concepts and language requires a consistent approach across all aspects of careers education, student engagement, and employer engagement and has given King’s Careers & Employability recognition in the UK and international careers landscape.
