University is often the first place that young LGBTQ+ people find that they are able to be themselves and this is one of the reasons that we wanted to take part in the parade. We also want to show common purpose and commitment with other London universities where students experience similar life-enhancing experiences.
This year’s theme is ‘Pride Jubilee’, marking 50 years of activism, protests and victories since the Stonewall Uprising in 1969.
We are placed near the beginning of the parade (C70) and the parade will begin at 12pm if you wish to see us and show your support. We encourage staff and allies to come along and show your support, we will have a selfie-board as a fun way to engage with crowds so please get involved!
We will also be hosting a fabulous Post-Parade Pride Party which will take place in Student Central from 5pm which will feature some of London's fiercest drag queens with DJ sets and a live show, this won't be an evening you will want to miss (free entry all night with Pride wristbands £3 after 8pm for non-wristbands).
We have upgraded to the Philadelphia version of the Pride Rainbow flag with black & brown stripes added to visibly include BME people in our commitment to LGBT+ equality.
We are pleased to hear that both Black Pride and Stonewall will be joining this year’s Pride in London Parade and we are encouraging staff and students to the Black Pride event in Haggerston Park on Sunday 7 July.
Whether you are joining in or not we wish everyone a safe and fabulous Pride weekend!
