Graduate Mr Lou Kenley speaks about the experience of studying for his University of London degree at HKU SPACE.

Welcome from the centre

The University of Hong Kong’s Department of Extra Mural Studies (DEMS) was established in 1956/57, the first continuing education unit in a university in the region. DEMS played a significant role in the provision of lifelong learning opportunities for the wider community. In 1992, it was renamed as the School of Professional and Continuing Education (HKU SPACE).

HKU has a recognised role in lifelong learning and, as the continuing education arm of the University, HKU SPACE fulfils this part of the University’s mission by providing learning opportunities for personal, professional and career advancement for people from all walks of life.

Student testimonial

Lou Kenley

Mr Lou Kenley

“I was fascinated by how such a prestigious degree from one of world’s best social science and management universities could be offered and studied in Hong Kong and around any corner of the world.

Studying a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Business and Management was challenging and difficult but a rewarding and worthwhile journey. This degree enables one to be better-rounded - seeing business issues from a more critical and global perspective.

One of the highlights of studying this programme with HKU SPACE is that when the examination period approached, lecturers and professors from the LSE came to Hong Kong for revision courses and explained difficult topics, answered queries and clarified mix-ups.

Graduating with first-class honours from the programme has opened up numerous paths for me in both graduate studies and career opportunities. I am sincerely grateful to the University of London and HKU SPACE for providing this once in a lifetime opportunity.”
